Rhodia

Rhodia is one of the three Sectors of activities of Solvay

Rhodia is a world leader in the development and production of specialty chemicals, and partner of major players in the automotive, electronics, flavors and fragrances, health, personal and home care markets, consumer goods and industrial markets. Providing added-value products and high-performance solutions to diversified markets, with 14 product ranges.

Products & Markets

  Cellulose acetate
Cellulose acetate tow is used mostly to manufacture cigarette filters, whereas flakes are used in the textile industry as speciality fabrics (veils, linings, silk yarns).

  Diphenols and derivatives
Diphenols are organic molecules resulting from the controlled oxidation of phenol. Rhodia produces diphenols (hydroquinone, catechol) and derivatives: guaiacol, veratrole, guetol, ODEB, IBCH, PMP (Paramethoxyphenol), PDMB and TBC (tertio butylcatechol).

  Engineering plastics
Focused on polyamide and with a completely integrated polyamide 6.6 value-chain, Rhodia offers a comprehensive range of Polyamide 6.6 and Polyamide 6 engineering plastics under the Technyl® brand. Technyl® is designed to meet customer needs in the automotive & transportation, electrical & electronics, consumer goods and industry & processing industries.

Fluorinated compounds
Due to their unique properties, fluorinated molecules are key for the synthesis of active pharmaceutical and agrochemical ingredients and for electronic applications.

  Intermediates
Through intermediates for polyamide and polyurethane (Hexamethylene Diamine (HMDA), Adipic Acid, AGS Diacides, AH Salt, Cyclohexanol, Adiponitrile (ADN) and Stabamid® Polyamide 6.6 Polymers, Rhodia Polyamide serves a very large range of markets.

  Phosphorus derivatives
Phosphorus derivatives are used in numerous applications, from water treatment to agrochemical products and fire protection, oil field drilling, fine chemicals and plastic additives.

   Polyamide fibers
Polyamide performance fibers have a multitude of uses, from providing comfort for furnishings, upholstery, automotive, carpet, textiles and sportswear, to extreme durability for protective gear, jet pilot’s clothing, industrial abrasives and electrical insulation.

  Precipitated silica
High performance silica is mostly used in polymer reinforcement - in particular rubber and elastomers - or as "carriers" for powdered food stuffs.Rhodia’s full range of precipitated silicas are specially designed to improve dispersibility, absorption, abrasion or transparency.

Rare earths, mixed oxides & aluminas
Rare earths are natural elements present in large quantities in the earth’s crust. After separation to very high purity levels, Rhodia formulates the resulting concentrate into high-technology materials for use in automotive catalysis (emissions control for gasoline and diesel vehicles) or electronic applications (phosphors for low-energy lamps, LCD and plasma flat screens, precision optics, etc.).

  Solvents
Rhodia manufactures two main types of solvents, based on its polyamide technology: oxygenated solvents (acetone, acetic acid and its derivatives) and dibasic ester-based solvents, produced by diacid esterification with a number of alcohols.

  Specialty polymers and monomers
Rhodia produces several types of polymers and monomers based on different technologies for which it has recognized expertise. This includes bio-sourced and synthetic poymers; specialty monomers respond to diverse and specific needs.

  Sulfuric acid
Sulfuric acid is one of the most widely used chemical products, applied in a large range of industrial applications. Rhodia produces and regnerates sulfuric acid for oil refiners and other manufacturers of chemical products.

   Surfactants
Surfactants are used as performance additives in formulations in a large number of industries, such as personal and home care, and numerous industrial applications: metal treatment, industrial cleaning, petroleum extraction, agrochemicals, etc.

  Textile yarns
Textile yarns, industrial yarns, and fibers are used in many textile and industrial applications in which the performance and adaptation of solutions to meet specific requirements are factors critical to success.
