Strengthening dialogue with local communities and harmonizing actions is a Solvay's commitment to ensure the quality of its relationships and the sustainability of its industrial activities.
Solvay plays a part in the life of the local communities, and this is a long-term relationship.
The Group’s ability to foster sustainable relationships with its immediate environment contributes to its global performance.
By 2012, Solvay is looking to devise a new method for measuring the performance of its many schemes put in place to promote good relations with the local residents around its sites.
Dialogue with local communities, contributing to local life and prosperity
Solvay's strategy for local communities is to open up its production sites to people and organizations, maintaining a constant dialogue and long-term relationships with neigbours and take part to the local economy and society.
Different local communication actions are initiated by Solvay's production sites : open days , philanthropic actions, opinion surveys, sponsorship and partnership activities, educational programs, environmental activities such as waste recycling campaigns, social and humanitarian activities, services to the community.
Protecting the health of local communities
All of the Group’s plants are introducing procedures and resources to protect the health and wellbeing of people in the neighborhood; this may involve managing air or water quality, the soil and groundwater, or exposure to noise.
Preventing accidents and preparing for emergency situations
Safety management systems are in operation at all major-risk production sites.
Emergency preparedness and public information plans have been developed in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Exercises and simulations are held periodically, to check on and improve the plans and their practical application.
