What the Group aims for is to reach a win-win situation when it comes to local communities, through a long-term relationship based on mutual interest and dialogue.
Ensuring a high quality relationship with the population living in the vicinity of its industrial sites is imperative to Solvay. To ensure it, Solvay acts on three areas:
Dialogue with local communities, contributing to local life and prosperity
Taking the interest of groups and associations into account, sites organize initiatives such as open days, specific participatory campaigns or other social and humanitarian activities.
A large opinion survey is planned by end 2012 targeting the vicinity of 14 of the main production sites of the Group. It aims to obtain the perception of the local communities and covers social, economic and environmental concerns.
Protecting the health of local communities
All of the Group’s plants have procedures and resources to protect the health and wellbeing of people in the neighborhood; this may involve managing air or water quality, the soil and groundwater, or exposure to noise.
Preventing accidents and preparing for emergency situations
Safety management systems are operational at all major-risk production sites.
Emergency preparedness and public information plans have been deployed hand in hand with the relevant authorities. Along the same line, simulation exercises are regularly held to confront theory and practice.
