Innovative solutions developed by Solvay contributing to prevent climate change
Energy
- Four additional membrane electrolysis units have come on-stream, which represent an annual savings of more 350 GWh of electric energy as well as 100 000 tons of CO2 emissions avoided.
- The investment of a heat recovery at Devnya in Bulgaria will avoid the emission of 50 000 tons of CO2 per year.
- The new hydro-electric plant at Bussi in Italy avoids 3 000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
- The new generation of SOLEF® designed for lithium-ion batteries. It will increase the energy density of the batteries as well as their life span.
Greenhouse gas emissions
Solvay is committed to:
- reducing greenhouse gases emissions (in CO2 equivalent), both direct and indirect (through energy and raw materials purchases), associated with its manufacturing operations and buildings by 20% between by 2020 with a 2006 baseline
- reducing its total energy consumption - reducing the ecological impact of the transport of finished products
- reducing the overall energy intensity of the company car fleet
