Product stewardship is about minimizing potential adverse impact on human, health and the environment through adequately informing customers about safe storage, distribution, use, disposal, and recycling. For industrial products requiring dedicated safety measures and risk management, Solvay provides its customers with specific and in-depth support: technical information, training sessions, videos, and visits on site.

Managing hazardous materials and their transport
Transport
- Carechem 24, provides phone assistance worldwide in case of accident or incident with Solvay's products.
- Solvay has systems to select transporters for road, sea, and rail transport. The program to ensure selection and audit systems for transporters of dangerous products worldwide is nearly fully implemented.
- Many Solvay large industrial complexes are highly integrated, which has a positive impact on transport, energy use and recycling (as water and by-products). In addition, a significant part of raw materials used in large quantities are supplied by pipelines.
Susbsitution of harmful substances or processes
- Very few products marketed by Solvay are among the substances classified as “very high concern.” Still, a number of products’ chemical reactivity is at the basis of their technical value; but eventually makes them harmful. Solvay manages the risks associated with their use in respect of the most stringent regulatory requirements.
