Solvay meets the regulatory evolutions related to product safety such as those resulting from the REACH Regulation in Europe.
REACH Regulation
REACH, stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals. It is the European framework chemicals Regulation that applies to all chemicals.
This Regulation aims to ensure the high level of protection of human health and the environment and applies to all substances on their own or contained in preparations or in articles. Between now and 2018, every chemical substances produced or imported at over 1 ton/year in the European Union will have to be registered in a database managed by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
Solvay /Rhodia & REACH
Solvay commits to fulfill REACH obligations for all its products and their applications through its activities of production, importation, marketing and use, according to the REACH timeline. In 2010, Solvay and Rhodia sucessfully completed the 1st REACH registration phase.
The 2nd registration phase of REACH is on track. This phase involves chemical substances produced or imported in quantities between 100 and 1000 tons/year and has May 31, 2013, as a registration deadline. This concerns on the one hand, around 60 dossiers covering about 56 Solvay substances on the other hand, around 130 dossiers for 126 Rhodia substances.
