Solvay supports the Global Reporting Initiative as a comprehensive, internationally recognized format for reporting data on extra-financial performance.
The GRI was established in 1997 with the aim of developing a globally accepted framework for voluntary reporting on economic, environmental and societal activities of organizations and companies. The guidelines were published in 2000, revised for the first time two years later and now considered to be a comprehensive set of indicators covering all dimensions of Sustainable development. A new generation of Sustainability Reporting Guidelines (G4) is now in development. G4 is part of GRI’s commitment to the continuous development of its guidelines.
Solvay uses the GRI framework (Global Reporting Initiative of United Nations Environment Program) as a benchmark. The GRI sets out the principles and indicators to report on economic, environmental, and social performance.
It helps Solvay to:
- inform in a structured way about organizational performance with respect to laws, standards, codes, performance standards and voluntary initiatives.
- demonstrate organizational commitment towards Sustainable development.
- compare organizational performance over time.
The consistency of Solvay reporting with the GRI is based on the identification of the materiality of the key sustainability issues relating to its areas of activity.
