Solvay's products can be found in many applications – sealants, pipes and equipment parts, paints and coatings, filtration membranes.
Within chemical manufacturing plants only the most robust and inert materials can stand up to the most demanding, abrasive and harsh conditions.  Specialty plastics and elastomers are used to make chemical handling equipment and fittings in a diversity of ways.  They can be moulded and preformed into valves and fittings; extruded into hose, pipe and seals; or formulated as heavy duty protective coatings.

Equipment and components
Solvay plastics are used in the manufacture of equipment components such as valves, flow meters and heat exchangers.  Seals and O-rings made from high performance fluoroelastomers offer long service reliability in chemical plants, whilst PTFE is ideal for expansion joints between chemical pipe work and reaction vessels and for gaskets, bellows and membranes.

Coatings and linings
High performance plastics are widely used for protective lining coatings for tanks, vessels and pumps, and in scrubbing towers for their performance combination of chemical protection, heat resistance and toughness.  Solvay has also developed an advanced solution for waterborne protective paints.
