Two important market areas for Solvay plastics are in the aerospace and oil & gas industries.

Aerospace
The aerospace industry calls on exceptional products for extreme conditions in applications related to engines and for functional materials that can provide consistently high levels of performance. In aircraft interiors Solvay specialty plastics comply with stringent safety regulations requiring low heat release, and low levels of smoke and toxic gas emissions. And, naturally, there are benefits to be gained from weight saving, lower cost manufacturing and reduced repair and maintenance costs.
In aircraft engines plastics have to face extremes of temperature and pressure and, often, aggressive chemical environments. For these conditions Solvay materials perform reliably as seals, gaskets, pump liners, fuel and hydraulic hoses, and insulation and jacketing for wire and cable. For engineering purposes, for example air-return grilles, materials with high strength-to-weight properties, excellent impact strength, high temperature resistance and long-term thermal stability are available.
Oil and gas
The transport and processing of crude oil require flexibility and high performance under severe conditions. Solvay high performance plastics are used in various oil and gas industry applications, including on- and off-shore operations, for the monitoring and treatment of wells in down-hole operations, for cable jacketing, insulation and injection tubing encapsulation. In many critical applications for seals, gaskets, valves, expansion joints and fittings, installations rely on Solvay plastics for productivity and environmental safety.
Pipelife, a Solvay joint venture company, produces and distributes an integrated system of pipes, fittings, and welds that is particularly resistant to pressure, thus providing a high level of security.
