Chemicals Sector - Water and environment

Water, air and the environment constitute a major issue of our time. Essential water supplies must be maintained, air quality must be improved and contaminated soils need to be stabilised. Solvay offers a broad portfolio of chemicals and processes.

Water for human consumption
Fresh water requires treatment to make it suitable for human consumption, through the use of disinfectants and oxygenating agents, such as peroxides.

Purification of used water

Domestic water and industrial effluent must be purified before it can be discharged back into rivers. Chlorinated organic products remove suspensions of organic and inorganic matter. Peroxides are used to detoxify and deodorise effluent water. Peracetic acids speed up sewage treatment.

Stabilising contaminated soil
The Novosol® process offers a high performance, reliable and cost effective solution for treating and recycling soils contaminated with heavy metals and organic materials, such as dredging sludge.

Reducing flue gas emissions

Neutrec® is cost-effective Solvay process for the purification of municipal and industrial incinerator flue gases and chimney emissions.
