Sustainable Development poses a major challenge to society. The Solvay group fully recognizes and accepts this challenge. We commit ourselves to take into account, in a way that is comprehensive and integrated in all our activities, the triple demand of economic, societal and environmental sustainability.
Solvay’s commitment of widened responsibility as “good citizen”:
- is applied to the entire lifecycle of our products. This encompasses their design, their manufacture, their applications and also the consumption of resources that they entail, including the societal impacts of their manufacture or use;
- resides in the desire to innovate and to make progress by conducting a permanent and in-depth dialogue on these challenges with all concerned stakeholders and all our specific partnerships.
|
Why?
Solvay cannot remain indifferent to the transformation taking place on the planet.
These concerns are expressed by its main stakeholders.
In addition to the competitive advantage that it can confer, contributing to sustainable development is a means of securing the Group’s future.
When?
Immediately! At the beginning of 2008, the Executive Committee published its Sustainable Development Policy and Strategy at all levels of the Group.
How?
This commitment to citizenship and broad responsibility applies to the complete lifecycle of our products and is based on the desire for innovation and progress, both by the Group and by society in general, to seek sustainable environmental protection and health. Sustainable Development is the responsibility of every entity within the Group, and all units will be involved.
Sustainable Development has to become part of every Group employee’s thinking when making operational and strategic decisions; like the Code of Conduct, it involves the Group Values, Innovation, Competitiveness, Safety and commitment to Quality.
A process of change and innovation involving a constant dialogue with key stakeholders and partners is necessary to do business as a good citizen. The Group must be prepared to respond more comprehensively to challenges through adapted management practices and gradual adjustment of its portfolio of activities.
