Amodel® PPA’s broad product family gives you numerous ways to optimize performance, processing and price. Their exceptional thermal, mechanical and electrical properties make them suitable for a wide range of demanding applications including high-temperature automotive applications, housings for high-temperature electrical connectors, LED reflectors, electric and electronic devices, and telecommunications.
Glass fiber reinforced grades of Amodel® PPA offer stiffness that can compete with metals, which is why PPA is often considered to replace metal in demanding applications.
Impact modifiers add toughness and increase impact resistance. Toughened Amodel® PPA products are designated with the AT prefix, extra toughened grades use the ET prefix. For applications needing low modulus at high temperature, consider an unfilled toughened grade.
Toughened Amodel® PPA grades are compounded with impact modifiers to increase impact resistance. Unfilled toughened grades offer higher impact resistance than glass fiber reinforced grades.

Amodel® PPA’s aromatic molecular structure provides greater resistance to a broader range of chemicals than standard, linear aliphatic nylons, even at high temperatures. This enables automotive, electrical and industrial components to withstand prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals, including bio-diesel fuel, AdBlue, brake fluid, calcium chloride, glycols, synthetic motor oil, road salt, transmission fluid and zinc chloride.
Compatibility testing provides a general guide to the chemical resistance of Amodel® PPA resins. However, this data should be used for screening only. The performance of Amodel® PPA compounds under actual chemical exposure conditions will vary with differences in mechanical stress, concentration, time and/or temperature. It is recommended that tests be conducted under conditions close to those anticipated in the actual application to get reliable performance information.
High flow grades improve the molding of thin-walled components typical of electronics applications. They are designated with HFZ followed by the standard Amodel® PPA nomenclature.

Electrical and Flame Properties
Amodel® PPA flame retardant grades have achieved a UL-94 V0 rating. They are compatible with SMT processing techniques, such as infrared reflow and vapor phase soldering.

Food Contact and Drinking Water
Food contact (FC) grades of Amodel® PPA meet U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and EU Commission Regulation10/2011. They provide long-term performance up to 120°C along with resistance to common household cleaners, oils, hot water and steam. These materials do not impart smell or taste, and they are free from BPA and BLS.
Drinking water (DW) grades meet the requirements of independent global organizations, including NSF, KTW, DVGW, ACS and WRAS. These materials are compatible with nearly all parts of plumbing, heating and sanitary systems to produce non-corrosive, chemically-resistant products that extend service life. Amodel® PPA is also suitable for applications having intermittent exposure to hot chlorinated water.
Amodel® PPA resins are hygroscopic. When exposed to humid air, they will absorb moisture. While the effects of moisture absorption on the properties and dimensions of molded parts are minimal, the effects on the molding process can be significant.
Resin should be dried before molding because excessive moisture will result in nozzle drool, reduced mechanical properties, poor surface appearance, and sprue sticking. Extremely wet resin will result in a foamy extrudate. Although Amodel® PPA resins are shipped with less than 0.15 % moisture and packaged in moisture-proof foil-lined bags or boxes, the resin should be dried for optimum molding results.
