The EWHA Solvay R&I Center is a research excellence in the field of Lithium Ion Battery (LIB) application development. The facility hosts advanced laboratories dedicated to the preparation of LIB components (electrodes, electrolytes, separators), the production of battery prototypes and their evaluation in line with the protocols of the battery industry. The EWHA battery labs, leveraging unique equipment, instruments, knowledge, and proximity to the major industry actors in this market, are strategic for the development of new Solvay battery products for customers.
You will manage and execute R&I battery projects with the aim of bringing to market new Solvay products such as polymer binders, separator coatings, electrolytes, solvents and additives. The researcher will also provide technical support to customers and Solvay manufacturing plants. She / he will operate in a multicultural environment in collaboration with other R&I centers, manufacturing plants, commercial and marketing teams.
Project leader and / or team member in Battery R&I projects.
Develop the experimental plan for the project (DOE: design of experiment).
Types of project: new product development, new technology development, customer support, manufacturing plant support
For the assigned project, execution of the experimental lab activities, follow up of the progress and respect of deadlines.
Project reviews and regular updates for management and stakeholders.
Literature and IP searches. Patent filing.
Safety in the laboratory
Ensure that lab activities are performed under the highest safety standards and in the line with Solvay safety policies and good practices.
Coach team members on safety and contribute to create a true safety culture in the lab.
Scientific and technological knowledge
Monitor scientific and technical evolutions of the battery market.
Support external collaborations with Universities and Academic partners.
Exchange relevant scientific information within the team and with other R&I groups.
Quality & Lab efficiency
Ensure the accuracy and reliability of the technical results.
Propose and develop new approaches, tools, methodologies to improve the efficiency of lab processes.
Ensure the application of R&I lab best practices
Follow state of the art of the lab equipment both from a technical / technological and from a compliance point of view.
With the support of the Customer Technical Development (CTD) team, define with the customers the needs, the technical milestones and the expected results.
Attend and contribute to technical meetings as requested by customers. Provide updates on lab activities (meetings, reports, presentations).
Ensure communication with all stakeholders.
Proactively disseminate information about competitors, battery makers and customers.

Qualifications and requirements:
Masters or Ph.D. in chemistry, Electrochemistry, and other engineering majors.
At least 5 years of relevant experience in Li-ion batteries (industry and academic) and in multicultural contexts are a plus.
