Solvay is committed to the UN Climate Change conferences and strongly supports the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Solvay is among the first signatories of the "Business proposals for the 2015 international climate change agreement of COP 21 in Paris".
With 197 Parties, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) enjoys almost universal membership. It hosts the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement (COP21) under its leadership. The main objective of the Paris Agreement is to keep the global average temperature well below two degrees celsius during this century, and to take actions to limit the rise in temperature even further to 1.5 degrees celsius above pre-industrial levels.
The ultimate goal of all treaties under the UNFCCC is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that prevents dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system, within a time frame that allows ecosystems to adapt naturally, facilitating sustainable development.
The COP is the supreme decision-making body of the Convention. All States that are Parties to the Convention are represented at the COP, during which they review the implementation of the Convention and any other legal instruments that the COP adopts. Decisions, necessary to promote the effective implementation of the Convention, including institutional and administrative arrangements.
Business has a critical role to play in implementing the Paris Agreement. By joining forces with clients, leading brand owners, governments and civil society, we will be able to accelerate the energy transition to match the Paris Agreement.
