Solvay today announced that CEO Philippe Kehren has been appointed to the Board and Executive Committee of Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, and will serve as Chair of Cefic's Advocacy Forum.
Cefic represents the chemical industry in Europe and engages with EU institutions, policymakers and stakeholders on issues affecting the sector's competitiveness, sustainability and long-term development.
Philippe Kehren's appointment comes at a critical time for the European chemical industry as companies navigate competitiveness pressures, high energy costs, industrial transformation and decarbonization.
Through these roles, Philippe Kehren will contribute to industry discussions on the conditions needed to maintain a sovereign, innovative and sustainable industrial base in Europe.
“Philippe brings deep industrial experience and a clear understanding of the challenges facing our sector today. His leadership will be a real asset to Cefic as we work to strengthen the case for a competitive chemical industry in Europe. We are delighted to welcome him to the Board and Executive Committee, and particularly value his willingness to lead our Advocacy Forum at such an important moment for our industry.”
"I have always been fascinated by industry and by the role it plays in creating prosperity across generations. Today, Europe's chemical industry faces a difficult reality: competitiveness, energy and sustainability have become inseparable challenges. Addressing them requires honest conversations about trade-offs and practical solutions. I am honored to join Cefic's Board and Executive Committee and look forward to working with industry peers, policymakers and stakeholders to help strengthen Europe's industrial base and ensure it remains a place where companies can invest, innovate and manufacture."
