Winter temperatures often result in snow or ice, making life difficult for traffic on roads. Calcium chloride is using since the 1930s to melt snow and ice and to prevent water from crystallizing on the road. caso®road is one of the fastest, most effective ice melt products available on the market. It melts ice up to -32°C. caso®road is a product characterized by a compounding point with water (eutectic), which enables the mixture to be kept liquid well below 0°C freezing point. Thanks to its hygroscopicity, caso®road absorbs quickly, even in drier conditions (45% RH), any water present in the air and eventually dissolves itself releasing heat (exothermic reaction), thus accelerating the thawing process. Solutions of calcium chloride have a viscosity that permits them to adhere better to the road surface. Vegetation, corrosion, and concrete performances compare favorably to competing with ice-melt materials, including magnesium and potassium chloride.
