Progressing beyond with composite techonology solutions at JEC World 2020

Alpharetta, GA February 24, 2020 --- Solvay is enabling the composites industry to “Progress Beyond” by developing innovative technology solutions for the cost-effective adoption of composites in large volume programs. At JEC World 2020, Solvay will launch and promote materials and processes developed for industrialized processes:

Aerospace Performance and Fast Cure

CYCOM® EP2750, a market first prepreg technology developed for the high rate, efficient manufacture of aerospace primary structure parts. This prepreg and associated process are competitive with machined aluminum and enable the manufacture of aerospace standard complex small to medium parts.

Automation and High Volumes

Double Diaphragm Forming (DDF) automated technology, as demonstrated on a pilot line recently unveiled at Solvay’s Application center in Heanor, UK, enables a sub 3min takt time (from raw material to cured part) when combined with SolvaLiteTM fast curing resin systems.

  • Watch a video on our stand showcasing our new demonstrator line and witness the result on an automotive inner door structure manufactured using SolvaLiteTM 710-1.

Performance and Ease of Processing

Solvay’s Evolite® F series thermoplastic composite tapes have been developed for demanding offshore O&G applications. They combine the recognized excellent corrosion resistance of Solef® PVDF with the inherent high strength performance of carbon fiber making it ideal for lightweight flexible pipes and risers at a lower cost of ownership.

  • On our stand you will see a novel design of O&G offshore flexible pipes.

Multi-functionality

Third generation aerospace structural prepreg and engineered materials for added functionality (including noise dampening and lightning strike protection), making the switch from metal to composites more cost effective.

  • At the show we will display a Clean Sky 2 fuselage panel demonstrating Solvay’s ability to support customers and R&D projects with material developments tailored to the project needs.

Structural integration and lower cost of ownership

Textiles and resin systems for infusion engineered for maximized performance, processability and automation compatibility while enabling structural integration and design freedom.

  • Learn about Solvay’s rein infusion technologies on our stand.

Additive Manufacturing and flexibility

3D printing is conquering the shop floor across industries, as it enables rapid, just-in-time production of functional prototypes, spare parts, and even small series, especially with challenging designs.

Solvay’s KetaSpire® PEEK, also available with carbon fiber reinforcement, provides exceptional fatigue and chemical resistance as well as excellent mechanical properties at very high or low temperatures. Solvay's tailor-made filaments for Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), allow better fusion of layers, enable high part density and offer exceptional part strength, even in the z-axis.

  • At the show we will display a selection of 3D printed parts for aerospace or oil and gas applications.
