About the role 

 
Our global Government & Public Affairs (GPA) team, composed of 10 people, is based in all key countries Solvay operates in.  
 
As a Director Government & Public Affairs China and APAC, you will lead and manage the development and execution of public policy analysis, advocacy iniviatives, public funding projects and government relations efforts to enhance the company’s reputation and influence within the regions and countries we operate in. You will be accountable for:  

  • Developing and executing comprehensive public and government affairs strategies aligned with corporate and business objectives. Monitor, analyze and interpret relevant policy, regulatory/ legislative developments and industry trends impacting the company’s business areas, and provide clear actionable insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.    

  • Leading advocacy initiatives and policy communications to support long-term business growth and risk mitigation. Proactively communicating with internal cross-functional teams around political, legislative, and regulatory trends, opportunity and risks that may impact Solvay.      

  • Representing the company in external meetings, forums, and public policy discussions to advance policy advocacy, business growth, and corporate reputation.    

  • Building an acute understanding of government social and economic directions, industrial policies and regulations, and provide insight and foresight on key industry policy and regulatory developments as well as geopolitical issues that may impact on industry operations, business and strategies.  

  • Establishing and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and serve as the company’s representative to the central, provincial and municipal government authorities and agencies, industry associations, think tanks, academia and universities, embassies, chambers of commerce and other key stakeholders to create a favorable policy environment for long- term business growth in China and the APAC region  

  • Advising senior management on regulatory risks, policy changes, and compliance requirements. Support crisis management and issues management (e.g. regulatory investigations) from a public policy and government relations perspective to safeguard the company’s interests.   

  • Collaborating with business units and corporate functions to support product registration, market access, and other business development needs. Provide training and guidance to internal teams on policy and regulatory issues to enhance their understanding and preparedness. 

 
We offer a permanent contract based on hybrid (3 days per week onsite) working mode with the requirement to travel within China occasionally. 

 

About you 

 
Relevant education degree or equivalent in public policy, legal, political sciences, communications or related field. Relevant work experience in public and/or regulatory affairs, government relations, preferably within multinational companies. 

 
Competencies: 

  • Proven track record of working with government authorities, industry associations or regulatory agencies 

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to build trust with government officials and stakeholders at various levels  

  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills to develop effective government affairs strategies in complex environments. 

  • In-depth understanding of China’s policy and regulatory environment, especially in the areas of chemicals management, environmental, energy, trade and export controls  

  • Excellent language capability (written and spoken) in both Chinese and English

About the pay 

 
Attractive and equitable pay for all: compensation is determined within a range to foster your development in the role. The base pay expected for this role is CNY 902,960 and CNY 1,128,700 per year in Shanghai - China. 

 
Your salary may ultimately be higher or lower based on your skills and experience. Additionally, we provide a competitive total rewards package that includes a bonus and/or other incentives.
