Alpharetta, Ga., Sept. 25, 2017--- Solvay, a leading global supplier of specialty polymers, announced that its global footprint and unmatched portfolio of specialty polymers enabled FTE automotive Group’s manufacturing facility in Brazil to reduce the complexity, risk and cost of its supply chain. Specifically, Solvay was able to provide a more reliable and cost-effective supply of high-performance polyphthalamide (PPA) polymer to FTE, who uses the material to mold an automotive clutch cylinder for one of Brazil’s best selling cars.
FTE, a premier producer of drivetrain and brake system applications, had specified PPA for its clutch cylinder application due to the specialty polymer’s unique chemistry, which offers strong dimensional stability across a broad temperature range and makes the material highly resistant to brake fluid and other common automotive chemicals. Unlike competitive PPA suppliers in Brazil, Solvay was able to support FTE’s regional logistical requirements with a steady supply of its locally sourced Amodel® A-8950 PPA, which simplified FTE’s supply chain and reduced shipping costs.
Amodel® A-8950 PPA is a 50 percent glass fiber-reinforced, heat-stabilized polymer compound that enables FTE’s clutch cylinder to maintain its dimensional stability at working temperatures between -30° and 140°C (-22° and 284°F). Solvay’s specialty polymer delivers outstanding chemical resistance to automotive fluids, and offered FTE a better balance of processing and surface finish to further improve friction and wear resistance in its molded clutch cylinder.
