Alpharetta, Ga., July 25, 2017 --- Solvay, a leading global supplier of specialty polymers, announced last week at the Children-Baby-Maternity Expo (CBME) in Shanghai that its high-performing polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) polymer and materials expertise enabled Singapore-based Hegen Pte. Ltd. to develop a revolutionary Press-to-Close, Twist-to-Open (PCTO™) stackable square-shaped baby bottle design that allows one-hand closure. Solvay’s PPSU offered Hegen a unique combination of safety, durability and comfort versus conventional polymers or glass.

By eliminating the conventional screw top neck, Hegen’s PCTO™ design allows parents to easily press on and twist off bottle lids with zero spillage. Hegen also applied its PCTO™ design to a manual breast pump, which allows mothers to ‘Express-Store-Feed’ with a single container. By using these products together, Hegen’s baby bottle can convert from a storage container to a feeding bottle in less than five seconds, and it eliminates the need to transfer breastmilk from one container to another.

Solvay’s PPSU offers a safe, shatter-proof option for Hegen’s product designs. It is a naturally amber-colored, transparent polymer that resists stains, does not absorb odors and is free of artificial pigments, phthalates or Bisphenol A (BPA). The material complies with food-contact regulations established by U.S., European and Chinese government agencies, and its inherently non-stick surface ensures that all the bottle’s breastmilk is passed on to infants during feeding.

Solvay’s PPSU enables Hegen’s bottle to perform reliably at temperatures between -20°C and 180°C (-4°F and 356°F), which makes it dishwasher-safe and resistant to more than 1,000 sterilization cycles without affecting its toughness or impact strength.

“Hegen’s business strategy aims to provide simple, practical and innovative solutions that improve and promote the breastfeeding experience,” said Yvon Bock, Founder and Managing Director, Hegen Pte. Ltd. “Solvay contributed an important part of that mission by providing a safe and durable PPSU polymer to create a product of the highest quality that can truly grow with your child.”
