Solvay Specialty Polymers Partners With Agiplast on New Recycled Solef® PVDF Resins

Share to

BOLLATE, Italy, October 10, 2013 – Solvay Specialty Polymers has unveiled a range of recycled grades of Solef® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin which provides major sustainability benefits for its customers. The new product range, called Fluorloop™, is based on recycled PVDF scrap from the Solef® PVDF production process as well as post-molding scrap from Solvay customers.

Fluorloop™ grades were developed through a global partnership with Paris-based Agiplast, a leading compounder of engineering plastics and specialist in the collection and reclamation of recycled resins. With the use of PVDF increasing worldwide, Solvay and Agiplast are promoting a complete solution to recycle PVDF scrap which is generated during the production process.

The effort contributes to the preservation of material resources and promotes and enforces practices that ensure plastics do not end up in landfills or in the world’s oceans, according to Solvay. Among Solvay’s primary business priorities is reducing the environmental impact of all of its products. Now end users have a new option to achieve their sustainability goals while also maintaining their major quality and performance requirements, the company said.

The new Fluorloop™ materials help Solvay’s customers manage their Solef® PVDF processing waste while also developing applications for reuse of the material. A range of Fluorloop™ grades are available for extrusion, injection molding, and compression molding.

Solef® PVDF is a family of semi-crystalline fluoropolymers with high-performance capabilities including strong resistance to harsh thermal, chemical, and UV environments. Solef® PVDF resins are best in class for corrosion protection in hydrocarbon service pipelines and flowlines that also carry significant amounts of CO2, H2S, and free water. PVDF liners are an effective, economic, and reliable alternative to current industry solutions such as increasing wall thickness with carbon steel, implementing chemical dosing, or specifying corrosion-resistant alloys.

Solef® PVDF is used for demanding applications in oil and gas extraction, binders and separators in lithium-ion and lithium-metal-polymer® (LMP) batteries in hybrid and electric cars, semiconductor manufacturing, water purification membranesfor wastewater filtration equipment, and batteries and capacitors for energy storage in a range of electronic devices.
