Inclusive Workplace

At Solvay, diversity fuels performance

At Solvay, we believe the teams with the most diverse backgrounds and experiences are also the most skilled; drawing on a breadth of perspectives to deliver vision and innovation. We also know that diversity is a proven driver of business success. Diverse teams bring fresh ideas, anticipate risks more effectively, and enhance our ability to serve a wide range of customers across the globe. This is why diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is part of our DNA — it helps us build a stronger, more resilient, and future-ready business.

We value human dignity and are committed to creating an equitable and inclusive work environment where everyone has a sense of belonging, feels appreciated, and respected. We’re striving to create a more sustainable world, and we can only achieve that with a team where everyone has equal opportunity to grow, thrive, and contribute — knowing their unique perspectives directly help us perform better as a company.

Building on a strong foundation

Solvay's commitment to DEI is deeply embedded in our company ethos. Over time, we’ve built a robust foundation that includes focusing on fairness, promoting inclusive leadership, and supporting our employees’ well-being. This commitment is not only an integral part of our history, but also essential to our future success. It ensures that our journey towards greater diversity and inclusivity continues to be central to our vision and strengthens the foundation on which our performance is built.

Leading the way is our board of directors

Made up of 10 individuals from six different countries, the board is 30% female and brings experience ranging from operational excellence and sustainability, to finance and talent management.

Solvay's diverse team

As we pursue our strategy of mastering the elements essential to our world, we understand that our employees are invaluable to our success. Our team is made up of 80 different nationalities, 80% of whom identify as actively engaged in their work.

Among the achievements we take pride in is the fact that over 25% of those in leadership positions at Solvay are women – and that Solvay employees stay with the company for an average of 15 years. Yet, our work in this area is far from complete and we continue to aim for ever-greater results.

In 2025, we achieved our commitment to the United Nations Living Wage initiative a year early, with 100% of our workforce receiving a living wage. This isn't just about a number; it's about ensuring every Solvay employee earns enough to live with dignity and security, covering fundamental family expenses for housing, food, healthcare and education. We are committed to upholding this standard and will review it annually.

Employee development
and training
Depends on
local regulation
Solvay keeps track of employee training hours to ensure compliance with local rules and standards routinely over the year. These training sessions include mandatory sessions on topics like confidentiality, compliance, and privacy, as well as voluntary programs to help employees develop new skills, such as leadership, language courses, and sustainability-related learning.

Employee resource groups: representation matters

Employee resource groups (ERGs) play a pivotal role in shaping our inclusive culture. These internal communities celebrate and support the diversity within our teams. The thriving Solvay ERGs create a platform for networking, mentorship, and professional development, ensuring all our employees feel valued and are represented. We invite everyone at Solvay to get involved with them.

Discover our ERGs

A.D.A.P.T is dedicated to creating a community for Solvay colleagues with visible and invisible disabilities, as well as for their caregivers and allies.

Eureka is a Brazilian ERG whose purpose is to create a safe space for everyone to share their experiences, ideas and knowledge on DEI, health, and wellbeing. Eureka works with and to the benefit of minority groups, shining a light on intersectionality and addressing issues such as race, gender, disability and LGBTQIA+ topics.

The LGBTQ+ Alliance's mission is to promote the visibility of LGBTQ+ employees, create an environment for colleagues to share experiences and to mobilize support when needed. It also advocates for LGBTQ+ related policies and recommendations and enhances LGBTQ+ inclusiveness across Solvay.

Living S gathers passionate and engaged Solvay citizens who weave sustainability into the fabric of our company. The ERG's goal is to demonstrate how sustainability should be a natural way of life.

SYPN seeks to forge connections across generations by organizing events for young professionals at which all Solvay employees are welcome. Their goal is to create a space for discussion that encourages individual and collective growth and contributes to writing the future of Solvay.

Voice of Asia is a space that offers support to Asian employees at Solvay, creating opportunities for professional and personal development and to promote intercultural understanding and collaboration. The ERG brings Asians and non-Asians together through cultural exchange and promotes dialogue around Asian talent development strategies with Solvay leadership.

WE aspires to attract, retain, and enable women at Solvay. This community is open people of all genders, and aims to foster a long-term change in culture and mindset to achieve parity. Opportunities for ERG members include mentorship, networking, and professional development.
