Our strategy: a leader in Essential Chemistry
Our strategy stems from a distinctive position at the crossroads of scale and specialization. We focus on what drives our value: market leadership, cost leadership and sustainability.
These key assets work together to create a unique competitive edge. Thus they deliver reliable, large-scale, and more sustainable chemistry. They also keep improving efficiency and overall impact.
Four strategic levers guide our investments and priorities, and two enablers underpin our strategy:
- our people, whose expertise and engagement drive our performance, supported by a culture designed to accelerate change; and
- our operating model, with strong central governance, ensuring focus, discipline and efficiency across the Group.
Together, they help transform Solvay into a simpler, more cost-efficient, and sustainable company. This supports our ambition to lead in Essential Chemistry.

Solvay's three core value drivers:
Across all our businesses, Solvay benefits from strong product know-how and expertise. We lead in process technology, supported by continuous innovation. This is integral to our performance as it supports our market presence and our cost-competitiveness.
Solvay has a high-quality and focused portfolio of key industry assets. It includes five global technologies: soda ash and bicarbonate, peroxides, silica, fluorine, and rare earths. It also has a strong regional business in Latin America that focuses on solvents and the polyamide chain.
These businesses are structured around two segments:
- Basic Chemicals (Soda Ash & Derivatives and Peroxides businesses): our products serve many industries. They support stable, resilient markets where Solvay is a trusted reference. These markets include consumer goods, healthcare, food and feed, resources, environment and energy, building and construction.
- Performance Chemicals (Silica, Coatis, Special Chem businesses): we tailor our products to customer needs thanks to our unique formulations and application expertise. They hold strong positions on various markets such as automotive, consumer goods and healthcare, electronics and industrial applications.
Our businesses are reference players in their markets, mainly because of a combination of factors:
- a strong product expertise and leading process technology strengthened by continuous innovation,
- a well-balanced network of global and regional manufacturing plants, near our customers, with strong supply chains, and
- our strong brand, linked to the quality and reliability of our products.
Several factors support our cost-competitive position:
- large-scale replicable processes,
- proprietary technologies, reflective of our innovative heritage,
- vertical integration in the value chain of our main businesses, and
- our track record of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
For Generations
Our sustainability roadmap, For Generations, has two pillars. Planet Progress focuses on climate and nature. Better Life supports our people and communities.
Through this roadmap:
- We are accelerating our energy transition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050,
- protecting biodiversity and save resources,
- meeting customer demand for more sustainable, competitive products, and
- prioritize caring for our people and communities, and
- make social welfare a priority, in line with Ernest Solvay's heritage.
We focus our resources on four strategic levers:
Stepping up operational excellence to improve our competitiveness
Accelerating our energy transition to achieve carbon neutrality and meet customers’ needs
Driving breakthrough process innovations to stay ahead of competition
Investing selectively to support our businesses growth while capturing opportunities in fast-growing segments
