MYOWINGS®, a medical device for treating soft tissue impairment, was originally made from metal. As the medical instrument is used on the skin to separate and mobilize subcutaneous tissues to give them more flexibility and restore their mechanical function and mobility, the cold, aggressive appearance of the device was often frightening and uncomfortable for patients.
“We were concerned about patient sensitivity and the comfort of the patient regarding the contact region. Patients were also afraid of the metallic instrument itself.”
Pierre-Michel Dugailly, Osteopath (PhD) at Myowings
Ixef® PARA: Very strong and flexible for improved patient comfort
MYOWINGS® and Solvay combined their technical application expertise and polymer engineering skills to develop a more specific, more ergonomic instrument, using Ixef® PARA, a medical-grade polymer, that was more comfortable for the patient with the aim of:
- increasing the possibility of working on different structures and in areas that are difficult to reach with the original instrument.
- changing the shape of the extremity of the instrument to make it larger and more comfortable for the patient.
- creating a specific grip that is natural and can be used by both right- and left-handed practitioners.
“We like our customers to feel confident with the new material by showing examples, making virtual stimulations and eventually prototypes.”
Philippe Brasseur, Cutomer Technical Development Engineer at Solvay
