Creating a closed loop for EV batteries with Renault and Veolia

Creating a closed loop for EV batteries with Renault and Veolia

The number of electric vehicles on the road worldwide is expected to grow from ten million in 2020 to over 100 million by 2030. With this in mind, Solvay is working with Veolia and Groupe Renault to establish a secure and sustainable supply source for strategic battery metals, such as cobalt, nickel, and lithium.

The partnership aims to make the most of the respective expertise of the three companies at each step of the battery value chain: Solvay in the chemical extraction of battery metals; Veolia in lithium-ion battery dismantling and recycling; and Renault in the circular economy and the life cycle of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. This includes finding solutions for everything from the collection of end-of-life electric vehicle batteries to dismantling, metal extraction and purification, with a focus on improving existing battery recycling processes.

More than doubling the sales of products based on renewable or recycled resources by 2030
