Fostering STEM education through partnerships
Supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education is a key focus of our Communities & Philanthropy program. Through long-term partnerships, educational initiatives, and hands-on learning experiences, we help inspire future generations. We encourage young people to explore STEM studies and careers.
All aboard the 'Science Truck'
The mobile science laboratory, XperiLAB, brings hands-on experimentation directly to students aged 10 to 14. By making science engaging, interactive, and accessible, the program helps students get curious. It builds their confidence in science and supports future STEM studies and careers.
Fostering interest in STEM careers
In partnership with CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, we support educational programs. These programs are for students aged 16 to 20 to discover the world of science, research, and STEM careers.
Through the Belgian Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Olympiads, we support students aged 16 to 18. We help them deepen their scientific knowledge and build critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The competitions bring together more than 2,500 students each year and help identify and encourage emerging scientific talent. Through this partnership, we help inspire future generations to pursue STEM studies and careers.
We also support initiatives with the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) that advance chemistry education and scientific collaboration. These programs help young researchers and Ph.D. students aged 21 to 35 grow their knowledge. They connect with the global scientific community and support scientific innovation. Through this partnership, we help foster scientific excellence and encourage solutions to the challenges of tomorrow.
Together, these partnerships support learners and researchers at every stage of their scientific journey. They help build curiosity, grow expertise, and prepare future generations with skills for a more sustainable future.
Fonds Ernest Solvay
The Fonds Ernest Solvay supports initiatives in Belgium and in countries where Solvay operates. The program focuses on three key areas that align with the Company’s corporate social responsibility policy. Established to promote science education and support sustainable solutions worldwide, the Fund welcomes applications. It invites individuals and organizations committed to making a positive impact.
Originating from Solvay’s founding families, the Fund also supports initiatives of general interest. These initiatives reflect the families’ values and priorities.
What is it about?
The Ernest Solvay Fund offers financial support to initiatives in 3 areas:
- STEM education. This concerns Science (mainly chemistry, physics and earth sciences), Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Digital education is also included.
- Planet Progress: Addressing environmental challenges: biodiversity conservation, energy transition, water purification, ...
- Better Life: Protecting the physical, psychological, and financial security of Solvay's communities.
Who is it for?
Any organization implementing a non-commercial project aligned with one of the three areas mentioned above. Organizations which enter a project must implement their project within a 100 km radius of an industrial site of Solvay. Administrative and commercial sites are not eligible.
