Calcium fluoride (CaF2)
is used in aluminium-metallurgy, brake lining, glass manufacturing, enamel and glazing frits production, and the production of welding agents.
Calcium fluoride (synth.) is used in the the following applications:
- Brake lining manufacturing: Additive for high performance brake pads.
- The additive brake lining for the high temperature range: Solvay's synthetic calcium fluoride offers consistently high quality through stringent raw material selection and precise manufacturing. It enhances the comfort of friction linings at high temperatures (430–820°C) by reducing brake pad wear, stabilizing braking systems, and providing exceptional thermal stability. These properties are vital for demanding applications such as high-speed trains and aircraft landings.
Additionally, it improves thermal conductivity, minimizes hot spots, extends brake material lifespan, and reduces noise for squeak-free braking. Environmentally friendly with low heavy metal content, it is also used in welding rod coatings and powders.
