Solvay employees rally to promote STEM education worldwide

Solvay Citizen Day 2020

For Citizen Day 2020, Solvay employees around the world are reaching out to schools and universities to inspire, influence and impact local communities.

In the unprecedented context of the Covid-19 pandemic, when so many educational institutions have been forced to shut down, it’s more crucial than ever to support education. Solvay is proud to live its Purpose of bonding people and ideas in these challenging times by doing its part for global education initiatives and involving its most valuable resource: its people.

Citizen Day 2020’s call to action is launched on November 30, with participants encouraged to make inspirational videos to help build the disruptive Solvay’s Future Innovator’s Library.

Supporting educational initiatives: Future Innovator’s Library

In order to bond further with communities, Citizen Day 2020 comes with a new initiative, as Solvay decided to team up with the NGO greenlight for girls (g4g) for the creation of its Future Innovator’s Library.

This virtual platform with inspirational videos created by Solvay employees will constitute an evergreen e-learning library accessible to all. As such, this initiative is in line with Solvay’s commitment for better life and with the SDGs dedicated to quality education, good jobs, reduced inequalities and gender equality.

Indeed, the objective of greenlight for girls is to inspire young girls - and boys too! -  to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects.

A toolbox for inspiration and education

Employees across the Group’s labs, offices and manufacturing sites volunteered to inspire children and students in primary, secondary and higher education by sharing their expertise and know-how with local communities. The idea is to engage in educational activities of all sorts, as a team, with a site or individually. Student coaching, organizing a virtual class, creating an educational video or presenting oneself to talk about jobs in science and technology or a specific innovative product - creativity and imagination are the limit!

To support and inspire teams in their Citizen Day actions, we provided them with Solvay’s IDEA Station - Inspiration, Design, Education, Action!, a portal of videos, “how-to” tips and ideas created in collaboration with the NGO greenlight for girls (g4g).
