FORMNEXT 2018: Solvay showcases new high-performance medical grade AM-ready filaments
The Healthcare industry is one of the key markets to benefit from Additive Manufacturing technology and our goal is to address its demanding design, low volume and high customization needs. So, we are launching our first medical grade AM filaments that are biocompatible for limited contact applications (< 24hr bodily fluid/tissue contact).
KetaSpire® polyetheretherketone (PEEK) AM filament (NT1 HC)
KetaSpire® PEEK AM filament (CF10 HC) 10-percent carbon fibre reinforced
Radel® polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) AM filament (NT1 HC)
The filaments can be used for a range of healthcare applications such as patient-specific cutting guides for surgery and for complex components is single-use and reusable medical devices. Find out more here.
Formnext, the leading international trade fair for next generation manufacturing technologies, was the ideal setting for Solvay to broaden its portfolio of filaments and pursue its aim of becoming the industry’s leading provider of high-performance AM-ready specialty polymers. A specially designed 3D virtual experience lent a playful twist to the launch of these high-performance medical grade filaments creating a ferment of curious visitors around the Solvay Booth. All types of visitors passed by from students to Big Industry reflecting the range and very nature of the market itself.
“Formnext is the leading global show for Additive Manufacturing and Formnext 2018 and Solvay is here launching our first medical grade AM-ready filaments that meet the stringent regulatory requirements of healthcare !” This is the excited declaration of Christophe Schramm, Additive Manufacturing Business Manager, who only a year ago was just a visitor at Formnext with a vision that has now turned into a ground-breaking reality set to take 3D printing to the next level.
