Girls Leading in Science (GirLS)

« Are you studying in a Belgian high school? In one of the 2 last years?  Are you willing to solve major societal challenges and take care of our homeland the Earth? So, try to win with your team a free year at university, in a scientific or technical realm, and participate in the "Girls Leading in Science (GirLS)" competition organized by Solvay - as part of its sustainable development strategy - and all its goodwill partners (individuals, institutions or associations). »

The purpose of the competition is to encourage young people to undertake higher education in a scientific or technological field.  Science and technology is everyone's business, boys and girls alike, but pay attention! This time, it’s the girls who lead the way!

The competition consists of 2 stages, a pre-selection phase and a final (pre-selection: 1st December 2018 – final : 27 February 2019). The pre-selection aims at selecting 50 students via small video capsules of max 3 minutes each, dealing with a scientific or technical subject of their choice. It closes on Saturday 1st December 2018.

The one-day final will take place on Wednesday 27 February 2019 at the Solvay Campus. Its theme will be "the ship of the future", and will be divided into 4 parts: a visit of the laboratories, a team competition such as a hackathon, a discussion panel on "women's scientific careers in R&D", and the announcement of the winners. The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 15 May 2019, during the Science Olympiads, also held on the Solvay Campus.

Two educational packages are available in French and in Dutch: one for students and one for teachers.
