Award recognizes Solvay’s ability to combine industrial development with sustainability

Solvay was named company of the year in the 11th edition of the Época Negócios 360° ranking, organized by Editora Globo, which is the main media group in Latin America. Each year, the ranking identifies the best business practices of around 400 companies from different sectors in

Brazil through a 360º analysis, involving criteria such as environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects, people management, innovation, vision of the future and financial performance.

The award ceremony took place yesterday in the presence of Daniela Manique, Solvay president in Latin America. It is worth noting that, last year, the Group had already been featured as the most innovative company in Brazil.

“We are proud to receive this recognition from one of the most important rankings that evaluate  companies and businesses in Brazil. This is the result of all our initiatives and the commitment of our more than 1,800 employees throughout Brazil,” said Daniela Manique, Solvay president in Latin America.

Solvay has been operating in Brazil since 1919, with 7 industrial facilities1 and a Research and Innovation Center located in Paulínia. Over these years, the Group has established itself as a reference for innovative chemical solutions for various markets such as automotive, home and personal care, health, textiles, and paints and varnishes.

More specifically, Solvay’s growth strategy in the region includes the development of renewable, biodegradable, and carbon neutral products while ensuring the decarbonization of its operations, in line with Solvay’s One Planet sustainability program

A good example of how the Group combines industrial development with sustainability lies in Paulínia, which will soon celebrate its 80th anniversary. What began as a farm in 1942 for sugarcane planting and alcohol production became one of the Group's largest chemical complexes worldwide and a reference in biodiversity conservation, with initiatives that earned it the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) Biodiversity Conservation certification in the Gold category. The plant manufactures about 1.2 million tons of various chemicals a year and established a unit that reduces around 95% of its CO2 emissions.

The site also benefits from various initiatives such as the digitalization of its operations, with the adoption of processes and technologies related to industry 4.0, with the use, for example, of artificial intelligence, robots and drones, that increase the reliability of its activities.

"These projects and initiatives have modernized our facilities and made our industrial units state-of-the-art in the chemical sector, helping to increase the company's competitiveness," continued Daniela. "We have a lot of growth ambitions, and we will continue to invest to make Solvay a reference of green chemistry in Brazil. Our approach includes constant investment, a lot of innovation in products and processes, internationally evaluated sustainability practices, and a deep relationship with our customers, partners and communities."
