Solvay’s Baton Rouge plant is going solar to produce its Rhovanil® vanillin & Rhodiarome® Ethylvanillin while having a lower environmental impact. Following on Solvay’s commitment for a sustainable approach by drastically reducing its carbon emissions, the Aroma Performance Global Business Unit will be powering its Baton Rouge plant, Louisiana - USA, with renewable electricity (Rec’s) coming from a 71.4 MW solar farm: Jasper County, South Carolina.
“We are proud to be part of Solvay’s engagement to cutting its greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 1Mt CO2 by 2025, compared to 2017,” said Peter Browning, Aroma Performance GBU President. “From January 2019, 75% of Baton Rouge plant’s electricity will be supplied by renewable energy, consequently saving 14kt of CO2 emissions per year. Decarbonizing the upstream value chain of our products gives an additional value to Rhovanil® and Rhodiarome® and meets the increasing demand from our customers to reach a diminished carbon emissions objective.”
