Solvay transitions toward designing ingredients and formulation solutions in agriculture for biological pest control

Solvay announces that its biocontrol formulation solutions Alkamuls® OR36, Antarox® L62 and Soprophor® BSU have been listed by the international nonprofit organization, Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI). OMRI Listed® products may be used in certified organic production and processing under the USDA National Organic Program.

Through the use of living microorganisms, natural substances, or semiochemicals, biological crop protection products prevent or reduce damage from pests, weeds and pathogens, emerging as one of the most promising tools for a sustainable future of agriculture.

This is the first in a series of upcoming applications. Solvay is committed to support the transition toward more sustainable agriculture, answering the growing consumer need for organic and residue-free food, while protecting the environment.

“As the industry leader in the development of co-formulants for plant protection formulation for over 40 years, Solvay aims to reapply its expertise toward designing innovative ingredients and formulation solutions for biological pest control, with the intent to address each specific challenges of these products.”

Lidiane Oliveira, global marketing director of Solvay Novecare Agricultural Specialties

Formulation plays a key role in overcoming the challenges facing the industry as it transitions towards producing biocontrols with enhanced efficacy. Solvay’s biocontrol solutions are designed to formulate microorganisms, such as Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus thuringiensis, Beauveria Bassiana and Trichoderma which require specific formulation strategies depending on their characteristics.

Solvay’s solutions include ready-to-use oil dispersion solutions, a full range of wetting, dispersing, emulsifying and suspension-aid agents, deagglomeration additives and natural polymer-based rainfastness adjuvants.

As OMRI Listed® products, Alkamuls® OR36 and Antarox® L-62 are allowed for use as an inert ingredient in combination with permitted active ingredients in compliance with the USDA National Organic Program; while Soprophor® BSU is allowed for use as an adjuvant or inert ingredient in combination with passive pheromone dispensers only.
