About the role

  • The North America Sales & Marketing team of Solvay’s Soda Ash & Derivatives GBU is looking for a Business Development Manager reporting to the Head of Business Development, North America.
  • This is a remote role: anywhere in the USA and Canada
  • In this role, you will work on gaining a thorough understanding of customer technical requirements and define compelling value propositions; identifying potential targets and diligently follow up with prospective new customers; collaborating closely with Manufacturing, R&I and external partners to assess needs for potential new products. You will get the opportunity to contribute to our ambitious growth targets and have a positive impact on the GBU success.
  • You will be accountable for:
    • Manage and develop the technical aspects of customer and market projects in North America, ensuring alignment with GBU objectives.
    • Propose and deliver technical proactive proposals to guide customers towards closing projects with Solvay’s solutions.
    • Gain a thorough understanding of customer technical requirements and define compelling value propositions.
    • Identify potential targets and diligently follow up with prospective new customers.
    • Perform and deliver customer support projects as requested by commercial management.
    • Develop technically new applications with both existing and potential new products.
    • Support product development projects with customers, coordinating with internal and external resources, including R&I.
    • Serve as the point person for technical intelligence activities in North America.
    • Create technical marketing articles and documentation.
    • Provide specific support for Soda Ash projects by identifying and developing lithium and mining opportunities and offering customized solutions.
    • Provide specific support for Derivatives projects by identifying and developing Alve-One and SOLVair marine opportunities and offering customized solutions.
  • The individual must be located in the US or Canada, preferably close to a large airport.
  • You must be able to travel up to 60% of your time.
  • We offer a permanent contract, with the option of being fully remote or hybrid.

About you

  • Chemical Engineering degree or relevant Engineering degree.
  • MBA or commercial/marketing-related degree preferred
  • Relevant work experience of minimum 5 years in technical chemical position with Commercial or customer-facing experience
  • Competencies:
    • Interpersonal skills (including conflict management), technical aptitude, consultative sales, analytical, organizational, communication (verbal and written)
    • Maintain working knowledge of the manufacturing process along with plant capabilities and limitations
    • Proven experience in technical project management and strong technical/commercial aptitude, incl. experience in supporting product development and improvement projects
    • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with the customer
    • Ability to drive results without direct authority
    • Solid technical, analytical, financial and strategic thinking abilities
    • G Suite and Excel, Powerpoint, SalesForce

About the pay and benefits

  • Attractive and equitable pay for all: compensation is determined within a range to foster your development in the role. While the US/CAN base pay reasonably expected for this role is $119,200 to $167,000, your salary may ultimately be higher or lower based on your skills and experience. Additionally, we provide a competitive total rewards package that includes a bonus and/or other incentives.
